The honest pitch

A rain cover doesn't
make your pack waterproof.

It buys you hours of dry contents in a downpour that would soak an unprotected pack in minutes. Here's what actually matters in a rain cover.

Three things kill a cheap rain cover: a coating too thin to handle real rain, stitching that fails at the seams,
and a fit that slips off in the wind. The Nexy cover fixes all three.

What we focused on: a coating that actually sheds water, stitching that doesn't fail at the seams, and an elastic fit that holds in wind — without the weight and stiffness of expedition gear. PFAS-free PU coating, bound elastic hem, reinforced bartack stitching.

Built for Australian weather

Sudden downpour.
Soaked pack. We've all been there.

From Cairns wet season to Hobart drizzle, Australian weather doesn't read forecasts. The Nexy Rain Cover lives in your jacket pocket — 95g — until the moment you need it.

Daintree rainforest wet season
Tropical Far North
Nov–April brings 2–3 hour daily downpours. Your laptop won't survive without one.
Sydney airport in summer storm
Sydney summer storms
30 minutes from blue sky to flash flood. The cover deploys in 8 seconds.
Cradle Mountain Tasmania in alpine drizzle
Tasmania's slow rain
It rarely pours, it just doesn't stop. The elastic-fit cover stays put for the full 6-hour walk.
Hosier Lane Melbourne in afternoon downpour

15 minutes in Cairns rain.
Two very different bags.

Side-by-side test: identical packs, same downpour, one with the Nexy cover deployed.

With Nexy cover
Without: water soaks the front panel within minutes, wicks through to the laptop sleeve. With Nexy: hours of dry contents.

A note from the founder
Why we built the cover

I lost a $1,200 MacBook in Cairns. I'd ducked into a café for 20 minutes, walked out into a wet-season storm I should have seen coming, and by the time I made it back to the hotel my "water-resistant" pack had wicked rain through to the laptop sleeve.

The reason I didn't have a rain cover wasn't laziness. I owned three of them. They were all in a drawer in Sydney. Bulky, awkward, oversized — too big to carry every day, so they never came along when I actually needed them.

So we built one that folds down small enough to slip into any pocket. Lightweight. Compact. The kind of thing you actually carry — not the kind of thing you wish you'd carried.

It's not a mountaineering cover. It's a travel cover. Built for the moment between the airport gate and the Uber, between the café and the hotel, between blue sky and the wet-season squall that nobody warned you about.

"Saved my MacBook in Daintree"
Got caught in an absolute downpour in the rainforest — the kind of rain you only get up north. Cover deployed in seconds, MacBook came home dry. Worth every dollar.

"Lives in my jacket pocket now"
95g sounds like a marketing claim until you actually carry it. It honestly disappears. I forget I have it until Sydney does its thing and then I'm grateful.

"Better than my Macpac one"
Had a Macpac cover for years — this is lighter and packs smaller without losing the waterproofing. The bound elastic hem holds way better than the Macpac toggle system.

"Held in 30km/h winds at Cradle"
Walked the Overland Track. Day 3 we hit a horizontal rain situation that destroyed two of my friends' covers. Mine stayed locked. The deep elastic hem is the difference.

Honest answers

FAQ

Will this fit my non-Nexy backpack? Will it fit my Nexy 30L perfectly?
Yes. The Nexy Rain Cover is one universal size with a bound elastic hem that self-cinches around any 30-60L backpack — Macpac, Osprey, Kathmandu, Aer, Peak Design, Black Wolf, you name it. The elastic stretches to fit smaller packs snugly and accommodates larger ones up to 30L.
Yes. The cover is purpose-built for the Nexy 30L profile. We chose a bound elastic hem that self-cinches snugly around the pack base — and it's also universal-fit so it works on any 30-60L pack you own now or buy later.
Is it actually fully waterproof?
Yes. The PU-coated polyester surface beads water and sheds it on contact — you can see this in the product photos and videos. The cover is built for travel use: sudden squalls, airport walks in the rain, multi-hour drizzle. For multi-day expedition use in heavy alpine conditions, we recommend pairing it with a dedicated dry bag inside your pack as a second line of defense.
How does it actually attach?
Pull the cover out (1 second). Stretch the elastic edge over the top of your pack (4 seconds). Tug the bottom elastic hem under the pack base — it self-cinches and locks (3 seconds). 8 seconds total, all one-handed, even in heavy rain.
Does it stay on in strong wind?
Yes. The bound elastic hem grips the pack base for a snug fit, field-tested at 30km/h winds without slipping. For sustained higher gusts, slip the cover under one of your pack's lower compression straps as an extra anchor.
What about condensation inside?
A single grommet at the base lets trapped moisture escape instead of pooling against your pack back. Most rain covers don't have this — and that's why your pack feels damp after a long rainy day even if no rain got through.
Is the coating PFAS-free?
Yes. We use a polyurethane (PU) coating instead of older PFAS/PFC-based DWR finishes. Same waterproofing, none of the forever-chemical concerns. Better for you, better for the rivers.
How fast is shipping?
Australian orders placed before 2pm AEST ship same-day from our Sydney warehouse. Metro delivery 1–2 business days. Regional 3–5 days. Free shipping on orders over $99 — and the bundle qualifies automatically.
