Product & what's included

Warranty, inside the box, colours, the pump
What warranty does the Nexy backpack come with?

Every Nexy is covered by a 2-year manufacturing warranty on both the bag and the wireless pump — zippers, valve, pump motor, stitching, the lot. We also back every order with a 100-day money-back guarantee: take it on your next trip and if it doesn't deliver, email us for a refund.

Full details and how to start a claim are on our Returns page.

What's included when my Nexy arrives?

Every single-bag order ships with:

  • The Nexy 30L vacuum compression backpack in your chosen colour
  • 1× wireless vacuum pump — USB-C rechargeable (normally $49 on its own)
  • USB-C charging cable
  • Quick-start guide and care instructions
  • Your 100-day guarantee card

2-pack and 3-pack bundles include one pump per bag.

Does it come with a portable vacuum pump?

Yes — free with every bag, not an add-on. The wireless pump is small (about the size of a computer mouse), USB-C rechargeable, and specifically tuned to the Nexy's valve. One pump per bag, always.

What colours does the Nexy come in?

Four colours, same price and same water-resistant matte nylon on all of them:

  • Midnight Black — the classic, forgiving, works with everything
  • Sand Beige — warm neutral, softer look
  • Ocean Blue — deep teal, stands out at the carousel (if you even go there)
  • Forest Green — muted olive, great for outdoor travellers

Buying a multi-pack? You can pick a different colour for each bag at the "Customise →" step on the product page.

How compression works

The science, the speed, the pump
How does the vacuum compression system actually work?

The main compartment is an airtight chamber sealed by reinforced zippers and a one-way vacuum valve on the side of the bag. After you pack, you snap the wireless pump onto the valve, press once, and in about 10 seconds the pump draws the air out — shrinking your clothes to roughly half their original volume.

The valve locks automatically when the pump comes off. To unpack, flip the valve open; air rushes back in and everything expands to its normal size.

There's a full demo video on the product page.

How fast can I pack and unpack?

Packing takes as long as any other backpack — roll your clothes, stack essentials, close the zip. The vacuum compression adds about 10 seconds.

Decompressing is instant: open the valve and everything expands as the air returns.

Where do I store the portable vacuum pump in the bag?

There's a dedicated padded pocket inside the front compartment sized specifically for the pump. It keeps the pump secure during travel without adding bulk — most people forget it's in there until they need it.

If you'd prefer to keep it in a separate pocket, the pump is small enough (roughly palm-sized) that it fits comfortably in the front zip pocket or your personal item too.

How do I charge the wireless pump?

USB-C — same port as most modern phones and laptops. A full charge takes about 60 minutes and gives you roughly 30–40 compressions — more than enough for a month of trips between charges.

Top it up anywhere a USB-C port exists: airport charging stations, hotel rooms, your laptop, or a portable power bank in transit.

Travel & airlines

Carry-on, personal item, weight limits, security
Does the Nexy fit as a personal item?

Not by default — it's sized as a carry-on, not a personal item. The Nexy at 56×36×23cm compressed fits every major Australian airline's carry-on limit, but it's larger than most personal-item limits (Jetstar's is roughly 40×30×15cm).

If you want to fly with both a carry-on and a personal item, bring the Nexy as your carry-on and use something smaller — a laptop sleeve, a small tote — as your personal item.

Does the bag fit under the airplane seat?

Depends on the airline. The Nexy is primarily designed for the overhead bin, where it clears every major Australian carrier's limits.

On full-service airlines (Qantas, international carriers), the under-seat space is usually around 40×30×20cm and a well-compressed Nexy can fit there too. On ultra-budget airlines with strict under-seat dimensions, plan on using the overhead bin.

Will the Nexy pass through airport security without being opened?

Yes. The Nexy is a standard soft-sided backpack with fabric, zippers, and a small battery-powered pump — nothing that raises flags at airport security.

You'll need to take out your laptop and liquids as per normal airport rules, but the bag and pump stay in. The pump is a small rechargeable electronic similar to wireless earbuds — no issues passing through Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth or any major international airport.

How much weight can the Nexy carry?

Two answers depending on what you mean:

Structurally — the bag is built to carry up to about 15kg. More than any airline will let you fly with anyway.

Within airline limits — Nexy weighs about 1.1kg empty, so your usable allowance is:

Jetstar (7kg limit)5.2kg for gear Virgin Australia (8kg)6.2kg for gear Qantas (14kg)12.2kg for gear Rex (7kg)5.2kg for gear

Important to remember: compression saves volume, not weight. Fitting more clothes in doesn't make them lighter.

Comfort & everyday use

Wearing it, caring for it, using it beyond travel
Is the backpack comfortable for long wear?

Yes — for travel use. The Nexy has padded adjustable shoulder straps, a breathable mesh back panel, and a sternum strap that distributes the load evenly. It's comfortable for an all-day travel push: walking through airports, public transit, city exploration.

Honest note: this is a travel bag, not a hiking pack. For 20+ km trails with heavy loads, a dedicated hiking backpack is the right tool.

Is the Nexy waterproof?

Water-resistant, not fully waterproof. The matte nylon fabric and water-repellent coating shrug off light rain, spills, and humid airport queues with no issues.

For a tropical downpour or a full soaking, it will eventually let water in through the zippers. A standard travel rain cover fixes that edge case completely — see our Nexy Rain Cover.

Can I use the Nexy as an everyday or gym backpack?

Absolutely. The 30L capacity is overkill for a daily commute, but uncompressed it works well as a gym bag, weekender, or overflow bag for big grocery runs. The padded laptop sleeve and organisational pockets make it a capable work bag too — just skip the compression step for day-to-day use.

A lot of our customers tell us the Nexy replaced two or three separate bags they used to own.
